Consider where we are — another racist incident of the police killing a black suspect for an alleged minor offense, and the shooting of a jogger based on whatever crazed suspicion the assailants claimed, and this amidst the racist culture fomented by Trump.

Yes, Biden should choose a woman, as he said, but she must also be black — in response to a nation that has to answer Trump in more ways than one — to say this racism has been spread for too long and too far across the body politic. Trump has made a joke of equal before the law — including the criminal law. Trump has defied our original promise that we were one, unified, though we were many.

The next Vice President should be someone who was vetted as a contender.

We don’t need any more surprises. Not this year.

I believe that person is Kamala Harris.

Let’s get it done — and get this campaign on the road.

This election is about two things — first, to restore the nation as a republic, but also, next up, to show the way to the nation’s future. Let’s get closer to breaking that glass ceiling. Let’s get this done — and like now.
