REAL CORNY
by John P. Flannery
Was talking with a local farmer and I kidded him about stocking up on toilet paper.
He said, in that way some country folk wind up to tell you something unbelievable, he said, “When I was a kid we used corn cobs.” He said, “We especially liked red corn cobs.”
He insisted it was the god’s honest truth.
So I researched — and found there were some who preferred to use handfuls of straw, but one of the most popular items to use for, ahem, “clean-up” was dried corncobs.
They were plentiful. So forget Costco or Giant and gather up your corncobs.
Experts say, “They could be drawn in one direction or turned on an axis.“
They were also softer on tender areas than you might think.
